The ficus wonders if the avataric concept of lord Vishnu in hinduism, is an indication to the knowledge of evolution among the ancient hindus.
As we all know, now, that life originated in water and then it came to land followed by evolution of plants and animals which was again followed by speciation. The avatars of lord Vishnu, as mentioned in the hindu scriptures follow a sequence which supports modern day concept of evolution and origin of life. The first avatar of lord Vishnu is that of a fish (Matsya), followed by tortoise (Kurma), boar (Vraha), half lion- half man (Narsimha), a dwarf man (Vamana) and then different human forms Parushurama, Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki.

One query on ur theories of evolution...Which part of hinduism do you follow.Are u a follower of the sanatana dharm.Do the vedas have any mention of the three almighty gods(Bhramha,Vishnu and Shiva)...Or do you follow the present day amalgamation of the concept of gods...Something to ponder about
ReplyDeletewell, as far as i am concerned i follow the Sanatan dharma which is supposed to be the religion of the hindus. but this article has nothing to do with my religous orientation. it just focuses on the idea of evolution in hindu mythology (the amalgamation of the concepts of Gods in your words)

ReplyDeleteI suggest u to read Padma Purana. Here there is a mention of evolution as aproxmtly as given by Darwin. But one thing! hold on!! Our body wil not evolve since its temperory. Soul evovles from lower species to higher... as u mentioned Dasha Avatar of Lord Vishnu. Here also just see Lord Vishnu, who is supreme personalty of god head reamins the same but at every occassion he has taken that perticular body... In Gita Govinda of Jayadev Goswamy, Poet mentions at end of some of the stanzas as KESHAVA DRITA MEENA SHARIRA JAYAJAGADISHA HARE!!!KESHAVA DRITA KURMA SHARIRA JAYAJAGADISHA HARE!!! KESHAVA DRITA SHURKARA SHARIRA JAYAJAGADISHA HARE!!! KESHAVA DRITA NARAHARI ROOPA JAYAJAGADISHA HARE!!! ETC..... sohere super soul(Vishnu) is transvering different bodies. Hope u agree..........
